Pre-marital Counseling

This is a 7-week program to help engaged couples prepare for a successful marriage. The pre-marital counseling sessions incorporate Biblical principles. We utilize the book “Getting Ready for Marriage” by Jim Burns and Doug Fields. Topics include: establishing safe emotional boundaries, Visioning and Goal Setting, Communication, Conflict Resolution, Finances, and Sexual Intimacy.

Are you about to get married for the first time and want to gain knowledge in how to keep your marriage strong? Are you getting re-married and want to gain knowledge and skills so this marriage will survive. If you answered yes to these questions, then the pre-marital counseling sessions may be right for you.

These sessions will address the following:

Topic 1: The couple will learn how to create safety in the relationship so that both parties can fully open up and stay connected to each other. The couple will also learn to identify joint vision and goals for their marriage.

Topic 2: The couple will discuss techniques to enhance their communication. They will learn how to be active listeners and use the power of mirroring to strengthen their communication.

Topic 3: In this session, the couple will learn conflict resolution techniques. They will learn how to work through feelings of anger and still stay connected to each other. The couple will also learn the power of forgiveness.

Topic 4: The couple will learn how to discuss finances and how to set up a joint budget. They will discuss how to address each person’s views on money including views related to saving an spending.

Topic 5: The couple will discuss the importance of intimacy and sex in the relationship and the importance of remaining faithful in the marriage.

Topic 6: This session will discuss how in-laws and extended family members can impact the marriage and how to maintain proper boundaries.

Topic 7: This will be a wrap-up session, to review what’s been learned and to provide support in areas where additional support is needed.
