Bhavani R. Hamann, PH.D, MSW, LCSW

Dr. Bhavani R. Hamann is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia. Dr. Hamann is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Motivational Interviewing. She provides therapy to couples and families at Marriage Healing Center, LLC using the principles and strategies of the Gottman Method and a family systems approach.

Dr. Hamann has a Ph.D. in Social Work from Florida State University, a Master’s degree in Psychiatric Social Work from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, and a Master’s degree in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Undergraduate in Business from Bangalore University, India.

She has worked in medical, psychiatric, government and private agencies, serving individuals, groups, families, adolescents, and children. Dr. Hamann has experience offering therapy to families in conflict, relationship issues and those with members who have substance abuse difficulties, end stage medical conditions, and metal health disorders. She has experience working with couples and families from different cultures, LGBTQ, and people from various income levels. She is conversant in Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, and Kannada.

At The Marriage and Healing Center , Dr. Hamann provides counseling services to couples and families. She draws from theories including Family Systems, Communication, Psychodynamic, Gottman Method, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

KENT JENSEN, LCSW, MSW, MPA

Kent Jensen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who specializes in helping couples strengthen, repair, and deepen their relationships. He earned master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma and completed an intensive international studies program through the Japanese National Institute for Defense Studies in partnership with Tokyo University. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Utah State University.

At the Marriage Healing Center, Kent works with couples seeking to improve communication, rebuild trust, resolve conflict, strengthen emotional connection, and create more satisfying relationships. He is trained in the Gottman Method and utilizes evidence-based approaches to help couples revive friendship, improve conflict management, and build shared meaning and purpose within their relationship.

Kent has particular expertise working with couples affected by Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He helps partners understand how ADHD can influence communication, emotional regulation, household responsibilities, intimacy, and relationship satisfaction. By increasing understanding and developing practical strategies, couples can move from frustration and misunderstanding toward greater connection and teamwork.

Kent has extensive experience working with individuals and couples from diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. He is fluent in Japanese and conversational in Mandarin Chinese. He also offers Christian-informed counseling for couples who wish to incorporate faith and gospel-centered principles into their relationship work.

As a U.S. Army veteran from a multi-generational military family, Kent understands the unique challenges military service, government careers, frequent transitions, deployments, trauma, and high-stress professions can place on relationships. He strives to create a warm, respectful, and collaborative environment where couples can better understand one another, heal old wounds, and build stronger relationships for the future.

Carole Thomas, MSW, LCSW

(Alexandria, Online Therapy)

Carole Thomas is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia. Ms. Thomas obtained her Master’s degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from George Washington University, and an undergraduate degree in Finance from Virginia Tech University. Ms. Thomas is also a certified integrative wellness coach.

Prior to joining the Life Enrichment Counseling Center, Ms. Thomas provided clinical services in different therapeutic settings, working with individuals and couples using strengths-based and holistic perspectives. She has also served the community by volunteering extensively with various non-profit organizations to serve the mental and physical health needs of its members.

At the Marriage Healing Center , Ms. Thomas specializes in working with couples, at all stages of their relationships, experiencing conflict or wanting to strengthen their relationships. She is trained in several evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as trauma-informed approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), hypnosis, and mindfulness modalities. When working with couples, Ms. Thomas draws on her Gottman Principles I, II, Treating Affairs and Trauma, and Seven Principles training and aspects of Imago Therapy, to help them strengthen their relationships in three primary areas: friendship, conflict management, and creation of shared meaning. Ms. Thomas is also trained in Discernment Counseling to help couples, who may be considering divorce, gain clarity and confidence about a direction for their relationship, based on a deeper understanding of their relationship and its possibilities for the future.
